Communication via the chat function on our platform

When you use our chat feature to communicate with other users, we collect information that you choose to share with other users through this feature.

2.1.2. The data we collect automatically when you use our services

We automatically collect the following information about you when interacting with our platform or using our services:

Device information

  • We collect information about individual devices, such as the version of the operating system and the unique identifier. For example, the name of the mobile network you are using. We associate device IDs with your OLX account.

Location information

  • If you post an ad on our platform, we automatically collect and process information about your current location, depending on the permissions of the device. We use a variety of technologies to determine location, including IP address, GPS, Wi-Fi access points, and mobile transmitters. Your location information allows you to view nearby ads and post ads in your location area.

Customer and log data

  • Technical details that include your device's Internet Protocol (IP) address, time zone, and operating system. We will also store your login information (registration date, date of last password change, date of last successful login), type and version of your browser.

Click progress data

  • We collect information about your activity on our platform, which includes the sites from which you accessed our platform, the date and timestamp of each visit, searches performed, posts or banner ads you clicked, your interaction with such advertisements or posts, the duration of your visit and the order in which you visit the content on our platform.

Cookies and similar technologies

  • We use cookies to manage our users' sessions, to store your choice of language and to display relevant ads for you. 2.1.3. Data from third parties or publicly available sources

  • advertising networks such as Google, Facebook and Beintoo;

  • cookies from our advertising partners and

  • your name, email address, profile picture, and friends on OLX from Facebook and Google.

3. Do we collect data on children?

Our services are not intended for children under the age of 16, so we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under the age of 16. If we find that a person under the age of 16 has provided us with their personal information, we will delete it immediately.

  1. Why do we process your personal data?

We will only use your personal information when permitted by law. We will most often use them in the following circumstances:

  • when we will have to perform a contract that we intend to enter into or have entered into with you;

  • where our legitimate interests require the improvement of our services and the provision of a secure and reliable platform;

  • when we have to meet legal and legitimate obligations.

In some circumstances, we may process your personal information based on your consent. If we do so, we will notify you of the purpose and category of the personal data that will be processed at the time of obtaining your consent.

4.1 To provide access to and delivery of services through our platform

  • If you log in with your mobile number or email ID, we will use your name, mobile number and / or email address to identify you as a user or provide access to our platform.

  • If you log in with a Facebook account, we will use your first and last name from your Facebook profile and email address to identify you as a user on our platform and to provide access to our platform.

  • We also use the above login information to provide our services in accordance with our Terms of Use .

  • We use your email address and mobile number (SMS messages) to send suggestions and recommendations about our services that may be of interest to you.

We use the above information to properly perform our mutual agreement and to provide services that may be of interest to you, based on our legitimate interest in carrying out marketing activities.

4.2 To improve your platform experience

i. Clickthrough data is used to:

  • providing personalized content, such as providing relevant search results while using our services;

  • determining how much time you spend on our platform and how you browse it so that we can understand your interests and improve our services based on this information. For example, we can offer you suggestions on the content you can visit based on the content you click;

  • monitoring and reporting on the effectiveness of the implemented campaign for our business partners and our internal business analysis.

ii. We use your location information for the following purposes:

  • to collect anonymous and aggregated data on the characteristics and behavior of OLX users, including for the purposes of business analysis, classification and development of anonymous profiles;

  • to improve the performance of our services and to adapt the content intended for you. For example - with the help of location data, we show you ads near you and thus provide a better shopping experience;

  • to measure and monitor your interaction with third-party banner ads that we post on our platform.

iii. With the help of your login details, which include your email address and phone number, we connect the various devices (such as desktop, mobile phone, tablet) that you use to access our platform. This allows us to combine your activity on our platform in a variety of devices and helps us provide a seamless experience no matter which device you use.

We process the above data based on our legitimate interest in improving the experience on our platform and the proper implementation of our mutual agreement.

4.3 To provide a secure and reliable platform

  • We use your mobile number, log data, and unique device identifiers to manage and secure our platform (including troubleshooting, data analysis, testing, fraud prevention, system maintenance, support, reporting, and data hosting).

  • We analyze your communication through our chat feature to prevent fraud and promote security by blocking unwanted or offensive messages that could be sent to you by another user.

We process the above information for the proper performance of our mutual agreement, to improve our services and to prevent fraud based on our legitimate interest.

We may change this privacy statement from time to time. We will publish the changes on this page and inform you about it by e-mail or on our platform. If you do not agree with the changes, you can close your account by selecting account deletion in your account settings.

The right to object to the processing of personal data when we rely on legitimate interests (or the interests of third parties) and when, due to your special circumstances, you wish to object to processing on this basis, as you believe this affects your fundamental rights and freedoms. Normal compensation is not required:

You will not have to pay compensation (or for exercising any rights) for access to personal data. However, we may charge you a reasonable fee if your request is unfounded, repetitive or excessive. In such cases, we may also refuse to comply with your request.

Deadline for response:

We try to answer all legal requests within a month. Occasionally we need more than a month if the request is particularly complex or if you submit multiple requests. In this case, we will inform you of this and keep you informed.

In addition, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent data protection authority at any time, as described in section 13.

  1. Communication and marketing

We will communicate with you by email, SMS or app and inform you about the services / platform, to confirm your registration and when your ad will be published or expire and about other transactional messages related to our services. Because we must provide you with such transactional messages, you may not be able to disable the receipt of such messages.

However, you can ask us at any time to stop sending you advertising messages, which you can do by clicking the unsubscribe link in the email or text message we sent you, or by changing the settings in your account. If you have trouble changing your settings, contact us via our Contact Form.

You will receive advertising messages from us if you:

  • requested such information from us;

  • used our platform or services;

  • provided us with this information when you joined the prize draw or

  • registered for promotion.

  1. Who do we share your information with?

We may need to share your personal information with the customers listed below for the purposes described in Section 4 above.

Affiliates: We may share your information with other OLX Group companies inside or outside the EEA that help us provide business services such as product improvements, customer support, and fraud detection. Any sharing of personal data between OLX Group companies outside the European Economic Area ("EEA") will always be subject to protection, as described in Section 9 or in a data transfer agreement, which specifies the obligations of both parties and ensures appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data.

Third-party service providers: We use third-party service providers to help deliver certain aspects of our services, such as cloud storage capabilities such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. Service providers may be inside or outside the "EEA".

We carry out checks on our third-party service providers and require them to respect the security of your personal data and to process it in accordance with the law.
